What if I buy the watch from a store in town. How do I know what to offer for the watch (brand new) since most stores will negotiate.

Second hand has a smooth sweep~ yet, there are alot of Swiss replicas made that are almost impossible to note the difference. You can take the bracelet off to check between the legs for the numbers, one side gives the type nr and the other the production number. Fake Rolexes do not have those numbers, they are lasered in the Rolex factory. Also, the crystal has a crown etched on the 6 oçlock mark on a true Rolex.
Genuine Rolex models will have a "smooth" caseback, and are free of these engravings. If the watch has anything on the back, it is a fake.

Watch out. A lot of guys who went to Iraq are bringing back "Rolex" watches. They say Rolex, have a sweep, and are pretty convincing. My stepdad brought one back for me, they go for less than $20.
